Geography

At Withernsea Primary School geography is planned and taught to be fully inclusive for every child.

We aim to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum for Geography; providing a broad, balanced and differentiated approach. Ensuring the progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills; and for the children to develop a lifelong love for geography.

Furthermore, we aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources, physical and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Teaching should also develop the students understanding of the key processes and environments starting with their local environment and slowly spreading further afield so that students are able to compare and contrast locations.

Finally students should be taught the key skills needed to observe, record and display information as part of geographical fieldwork.
